Our Main Stage series offers a unique combination of the best of both the classical and the jazz music worlds. The series consists of five concerts this season: three classical and two jazz offerings... something for everybody's taste! This series gives our patrons great music and internationally famous musicians and exceptional local talent to create "musical bridges around the world."


"Carnival of the Animals" October 11th, 2009


We are launching the season with a truly international affair, featuring string quartet Cuarteto de Bellas Artes- from Mexico City, French pianist-composer, Franoise Choveaux, and artistic director of Musical Bridges Anya Grokhovski in a festive program. The concert will include Franoises piano quintet and Carnival of the Animals for two pianos and string quartet by Camille Saint-Saens.

"Bach in a style of Jazz" November 22, 2009


We will offer unique interpretations of world classics. Valery Grokhovski creates original compositions for classical piano trio with a jazz twist. He will be joined by cellist Boris Andrianov, violinist Mark Cheikhet and numerous jazz musicians. All three classical musicians will travel to San Antonio all the way from Moscow, Russia; the jazz musicians are from San Antonio.

"If it is not Baroque do not fix it!" January 10, 2010


We are introducing the Baroque Era in all its authenticity, music performed by countertenor, soprano and period baroque trumpet. Mercury baroque ensemble from Houston will be joined by soprano Angela Malek and trumpeter Nathaniel Mayfield.

"Jazz Reflections" February 28, 2010


Bennie Maupin bass clarinet, Albert Heath drums and Dariusz Oleszkiewicz bass. These giants of jazz have recorded with John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Nina Simone, Wes Montgomery, Chick Corea and many others. Bennie Maupin and friends will WOW the San Antonio audience with creative virtuosic improvisations in an unforgettable program.

"Russian Dance" May 2, 2010


Houston-based Russian folk dancers Matreshki join world famous soprano, Maria Markina in a fairy tale performance featuring Russian songs and arias along with lively Russian folk dances. Moscow pianist Elena Amirbekyan and Russian folk group Kalinka of Austin will round out the program.
